From Finnøy to Finnish kitchens.

Lautio began with a simple idea: a wooden cutting board should be beautiful and natural – but above all easy to use every single day.

There are two of us.

Jakob is a carpenter and joiner. He makes the Lautio boards in the small Steinnes Tre AS workshop on the island of Finnøy, on Norway’s west coast, and burns the Lautio mark into every board with a laser. Boards from his workshop are already sold under other Norwegian brands – Lautio is the first one he has made his own.

Daniel looks after Lautio in Finland: the web shop, deliveries, and making sure everything works clearly and naturally for the Finnish customer. The warehouse is in Finland, and an order placed before 14:00 on a weekday ships from there the same day.

Why Accoya

Wood that survives the wash.

An ordinary wooden board cracks and needs hand washing. A plastic board gets scratched and sheds microplastics into your food. Accoya® is real pine whose structure has been improved by acetylation – which is why Lautio survives the dishwasher, keeps its shape and is still wood all the way through.

Every board is planed down to 8 mm. That takes away the darker underside of the plank and uses the wood as well as it can be used – and it makes a board that is light to lift and easy to store.

Lautio comes from “lauta”.

“Lauta” is Finnish for board. Lautio is that word turned into a name – short, simple and at home in a Finnish kitchen.
We make one product and we make it well – from FSC®-certified Accoya® wood.
